Petaling Jaya
General Description
Petaling Jaya, originally designed as a satellite township for Kuala Lumpur, has evolved into a major city in its own right. It has an estimated population of 550,000 residents and is situated in the Petaling District of Selangor. The city was granted city status on June 20, 2006.
Petaling Jaya's popularity stems from its proximity to Kuala Lumpur, making it a preferred choice for both city dwellers and visitors. Apart from the convenience of accessing the city center, Petaling Jaya is renowned for its numerous shopping and dining options, making it a haven for avid shoppers and food enthusiasts.
With the expansion of development from Kuala Lumpur, certain areas of Petaling Jaya, particularly the commercial belt and high-rise residential zones, have experienced significant growth. The local authority, MBPJ, has initiated rezoning exercises, known as MBPJ Special Area Plan (Rancangan Kawasan Khas, or RKK), to accommodate the increasing commercial activities. The surge in popularity of high-rise stratified schemes such as condominiums and service residences has attracted boutique developers to launch similar projects in Petaling Jaya. Additionally, the presence of various universities and colleges, particularly in Sections 14, 13, and 20, has contributed to the vibrancy and youthfulness of these areas, attracting college students and youngsters.
