General Description

Sri Petaling, also known as Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, is a suburb located in the southern part of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Covering an area of 620 acres (250 hectares), it is bordered by the towns of Happy Garden, Taman OUG, Kuchai Lama, and Bukit Jalil, within the Seputeh constituency.

During the mid-1980s to mid-1990s, Sri Petaling gained the reputation of being a "rubbish area" due to its landfill site. However, the landfill was closed down, and the land was transformed into a playground and car park for the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

The initial residential development in Sri Petaling focused on areas like Jalan Puteri Senggang, Jalan Wan Empok 1, and Jalan Wan Empok 2. These areas offered houses priced between RM 40,000 and RM 60,000 during the 1980s.

Initially, Sri Petaling had a relatively low population in the early 1980s due to its distance from Kuala Lumpur and isolation.
